The Human Genome and Stem Cell Research Center studies the genetic basis underlying several human diseases and healthy aging. In addition, it develops projects in regenerative medicine.
Since the Center was established in 2000, the genetic basis and pathological mechanisms of 40 diseases have been identified, including neuromuscular diseases, intellectual disability, autistic spectrum disorders, craniofacial anomalies, skeletal disorders, hearing loss, and cancer. In particular, the Center uses stem cells from individuals with genetic diseases and animal models to understand how mutations lead to the development of genetic conditions.
