Dr. Fernando Kok

Fernando Kok got his medical degree at University of Sao Paulo School of Medicine in 1978 and have completed his Residency training in Pediatric Neurology at Hospital das Clinicas at University of Sao Paulo School of Medicine in 1981. Since 1983 he is medical assistant at Pediatric Neurology Service of Hospital das Clínicas at University of Sao Paulo School of Medicine and since 1995 he is supervisor of Pediatric Neurology ward. He is also coordinator of Neurogenetics and Neurometabolic outpatient services. He got his PhD. degree in Neurology at University of Sao Paulo School of Medicine in 1990 and have done a post-doctoral training in Neurogenetics at Johns Hopkins University / Kennedy-Krieger Institute (Baltimore, Md, EUA) from 1992 to 1995. In 2002, he was a visiting professor at Mayo Clinic Biochemical Genetics Laboratory.

Since 2013, he is Associate-Professor at Department of Neurology of University of Sao Paulo School of Medicine and since 2002, he is associate researcher at Center for Human Genome Research of Biosciences Institute. For 15 years (1997-2012) he was medical advisor in Inborn Errors of Metabolism and Molecular Biology at Fleury Group. He is partner and share-holder of Mendelics Genomic Analysis, a company dedicated to nexte generation sequencing of human genome, for both clinical and research use.

He is fully accreditaded advisor for the MSc and PhD programs of Neurosciences at University of Sao Paulo School of Medicine and also a special advisor at the Post-Grad Program of Genetics and Evolutive Biology  at Biosciences Institute at University of Sao Paulo. Up to now, he concluded mentoring of 4 BSc and 8 PhD students and 2 post-doctoral professional. He also took part of more than 100 Committees for evaluation of MSc and PhD thesis.

He authorshipped more than 50 chapters in scientific books and has more than 80 manuscripts in peer-reviewed national and international scientific magazines. His current h-index is 19.
